So you have decided to move and you are now searching online for the best movers in nyc only to find a million and one companies. Well here is a breakdown of what to look for and what to know when selecting a moving company.
1. The Hostage: After an original estimate you get all the extras added later.
2. Bait and Switch: Being held hostage after being told one thing and getting something later.
3. Trumped Up Charges - You cannot figure out what they are referring to in regards to technical terms eg. cubic feet, estimated cubic fee, actual cubic feet
4. The Late Delivery: Your Move was grouped with others or the truck was taken off the road while your furniture is stuffed in a storage facility for an undetermined time.
5. Do Not Give Deposits. Your furniture is your deposit. Any reputable nyc moving company does not ask for a deposit!
6. Do Not Sign a Partial Moving Contract or Skinny Contracts. Review the contract with the mover and someone you know and trust and complete the entire contract.
7. Avoid Front Companies: Search online for the location of the moving company. Make sure they have a real location with a real address so that your project is not sourced to another mover.
9. Do not Pay with Cash. You need a copy and proof of your items and personals. Without record of your payment you have no proof.
